11 th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL INTEGRETED DANCE WORKSHOP
5 th – 9 th July 2010

Integrated dance is the unity of motion expression and mental state of a dancer. It creates the wide possibilities of self expression. Integrated dance is the movement starting in the depth of human, resulted from his experiences and thoughts. It bases at the idea of partnership, equality, mutual respect and understanding. It is the form of breaking the limits, crossing the borders rooted deep in our consciousness. Integrated dance changes common opinions concerning the dance and perception of dancer’s body as well as the stereotypes concerning the disability. It integrates people coming from various social environments, in various ages, having different preferences and skills. The dance is open for everybody, it focuses on the human abilities. It moves the human body toward crossing the borders. It doesn’t impose any technique but use everyone’s unique scope. It removes the borders and limits of dance. The idea of founding Integrated Dance Theatre appeared in 1998 as a effect of Jacek Luminski’s – Silesian Dance Theatre’s director, visit on the dance festival in Newcastle UK and the same year Jacky Poole’s, Diane Warden’s and Lynn Ingram’s revisit during the Vth International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom. 1999 was the year that brought up many important arguments for founding the Theatre that would gather together disabled people and dancers. The same year the first workshops for people on the wheelchairs were led by Jacky Poole and Pietro Cardillo. They were crowned with the performance. The next dance workshops under the guidance of Pietro Cardillo and dance group VELCRO (UK) were organized in 2000. The performance entitled “Understanding of silent echo” presented on the VII Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival was the effect. Thanks to these workshops a group of dozen or so of people were appointed as a project “Direction”. “Direction” is contemporary dance company. Its aim is not the therapy or rehabilitation but searching for new esthetics of dance and professional creative work of the high quality level.

Is rated among the elements of art-therapy. The basic elements of dance: the motion and the rhythm lead to reaching the harmony of body and mind, enable understanding ourselves and our emotions as well as interpersonal communication between us and others. Therapy through the movement is some kind of psychological use of movement where body and mind are united. It’s a process make the physical ad mental integration of human. “Therapy through the movement” doesn’t replace the therapy itself, its function is to aid – to evoke motive activity, to improve the condition of body and mind, to help with getting over the tensions and negative emotions. It also has an influence on the development of creativity. Including the elements of contemporary dance in the workshops we are trying to give the participants the opportunity of creating their own dance compositions, short improvisations that are usually used in the performances we prepare, Very important role in leading such a form of therapy plays the attitude of the leader towards the group he works with. Empathy, building the mutual trust and taking care of participants safety are very important too. One of the main elements of the therapy is the music but its using should be depended on the mental state, condition and mood of the participants.
